Where are Natural Farm’s products coming from?

Our products are sourced from a single supplier and produced at our USDA, FDA and human-grade factory located in Brazil.

Why does Natural Farm source from Brazil?

South America’s inspection and manufacturing processes are stricter and safer compared to other countries. Unlike the US, most cows are grass-fed in Brazil resulting in beef that is higher in nutrition: such as more carotenoids, vitamin E, and other antioxidants. The cattle are also free range, which means less stress for the cows since they are not crowded in feedlots and less antibiotics. Better for the environment, better for your pup. We only source the highest quality grass-fed beef, which is grain-free, hormone-free, and chemical-free.

What does the “Natural” in Natural Farms mean?

It means that all of our products are free from hormones, additives, chemical processing, artificial flavors, and colors. Our products are packaged right after being slow-baked which allow us to have a safe and tasty Natural treat.

How can Natural Farm ensure safety of products?

All of our products are produced at our FDA, USDA, and human-grade approved facility in Brazil. Before a batch is released, samples are sent to a lab where they’re tested to ensure safety. No products have or ever will leave the facility without being cleared. While most U.S. bully sticks come from South America, many other companies package their products in the United States. The problem with that? Having multiple points of contact with the product increases the risk of bacteria growth which is unsafe for your dog. The only way to reduce this risk is to have it packaged at the same place where it’s produced. That’s why everything we make is packaged at our food facility!

How are Natural Farm’s treats processed?

All of our treats are made at our own human-grade facility. We source the meat from a single-supplier, and use premium grass-fed, free-range beef-free of hormones and additives.

The meat is cleaned carefully with distilled water at least 4 times before going in the oven, where it is always slow baked to preserve nutrients, flavor, and remove moisture without getting burnt.

Once done in the oven, they’re cut into the desired sizes and then packaged right away, which is important to eliminate the risk of bacteria. Once the bag is sealed it is heat treated, which is an extra step to make sure there is zero contamination.

Every single batch goes in quarantine for 2 weeks, while we take samples that are sent to the lab to test for salmonella sp. and any other bacteria. We only release the batch after receiving the lab results. This means zero chance of contamination while the product is in the bag.

Do you irradiate your products?

No, we do not irradiate any of our products. All of our products are made in our human-grade facility and packaged there as soon as it leaves the oven and only opened at your house. We mean it when we say Natural.

Do your products contain parts of the thyroid?

We guarantee that neither our jerky nor our gullet sticks have any parts of thyroid.

In fact, we use 100% human grade beef esophagus to make both jerky and gullet sticks. The only difference is that the jerky is cut open to have the flat shape. Both are all-natural, oven baked treats.

What are bully sticks?

Bully sticks are made out of beef pizzle. Not many people know what pizzle is and often get surprised when finding out. Beef Pizzle is bull penis. It might seem strange to humans, but it’s not to your dog!

Pizzle is an organ, which dogs prefer since that’s what their ancestors used to eat. Organ meats have loads of nutrients and flavor making it both delicious and healthy for your dog.  Bully sticks are single-ingredient, 100% beef, high in protein, fully digestible and won’t splinter. They are also great for dental health as it scrapes away plaque and buildup.

Why are bully sticks safer than rawhide?

Bully sticks are made from beef pizzle that is dried and cut into the desired size. Rawhide is hide or animal skin that has not been exposed to tanning, which is then processed into different shapes. One of the main reasons why bully sticks are safer for your dog is that they’re fully digestible whereas rawhide is not. This means that if your dog swallowed a piece of rawhide it could potentially cause an esophageal or intestinal obstruction and sit for months in the stomach causing gastrointestinal issues.

How do I introduce Natural Farm’s chews to my dog?

Our chews are great, healthy treats for your dog. However, just as any addition or change in your pet’s diet, you need to introduce it slowly. This is especially important with bully sticks and many of our other chews since they’re high in protein. If your dog is not used to a high protein intake and you don’t follow the guidelines, it might leave them with an upset stomach or lead to  diarrhea or vomiting.

So, how do you introduce our chews? We suggest letting your dog chew on one for 5 to 10 minutes each day for about a week or until you notice that it does not cause any changes to their digestion. Closely monitor how your pet is reacting to the bully stick and then gradually increase the chewing time. This will prevent upsetting their stomach and any incidents. Once your pet is used to the treat, you can feed them one chew per day.

Also, please keep in mind that when introducing any new chewing treat, closely supervise your pet to make sure they’re enjoying the treat safely. Chews should be larger than your dog's mouth, so it’s important to make sure they don’t bite off any pieces that they might be able to swallow. Once the treat is chewed down to the size that could be swallowed by your dog, take it away from them.

Remember, be responsible and never let your dog have the chew without any supervision. If these guidelines are followed, our chews will be a great addition to your dog’s diet! Happy Chewing!

How much fat does Natural Farm’s bully sticks have?

Bully sticks are low in fat when compared with other natural chews, such as pig ears. Generally, they average around 10% fat content, with about 75-85% protein. This makes them a good choice for pets who need to watch their fat intake. However, it is still recommended that you watch your pet's consumption, as bully sticks are not low in calories and are irresistible for most dogs.

How long does a bully stick last?

How long a bully stick lasts depends on the dog’s breed and chewing habits, so it’s different from dog to dog. A bully stick should generally last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, if given the appropriate size. If your dog finishes the bully stick quickly, it may be a good idea to try one suited for heavy chewers, such as extra thick or braided bully sticks.

What size do you recommend?

It’s important to choose the right sized bully stick that works for your dog. If it’s too big, they won’t be able to chew through it, and if it’s too small, it could pose as a choking hazard. Always supervise your dog the first time to make sure it works for them.

Our bully sticks come in a variety of sizes, from bite-sized to 12”.

- Bully Stick Bites, Extra Thin Bully sticks, and Pixie Bully sticks are perfect for puppies, senior dogs, and smaller dogs.

- Our 6-inch bully sticks are standard size and perfect for dogs of all sizes.

- Our Braided Bully Sticks, Jumbo Bully Sticks, and 12” bully sticks are great for large dogs and heavy chewers.

How often should I give my dog a bully stick?

Even though bully sticks are healthy, single-ingredient, natural, and high in protein, it is not recommended to exceed the daily intake. We recommend no more than one bully stick per day. It’s appropriate for treats to make up 10% of  the total daily calorie intake, so adjust based on your dog’s diet.

Are bully sticks safe for puppies?

Yes, our bully sticks are a great chew for your puppy! However, we recommend closely supervising your puppy when chewing since they tend to get very excited, eat too quickly and could potentially choke on their food.

My dog swallowed the bully sticks, should I be worried?

We frequently get asked what to do if the dogs swallowed parts of the bully sticks without chewing on it. If your dog seems fine, there shouldn’t be any reason to worry. Our bully sticks are single-ingredient and fully digestible, which means that the tummy will be able to break it down. We always recommend calling the vet with any questions or concerns you may have.

Keep in mind that swallowing large pieces of a bully sticks can pose a choking hazard, so it’s always important to supervise your pet when they’re chewing. To prevent this from happening, it could be a good idea to invest in a bully stick holder, which will make it impossible for your dog to chew the bully stick without properly chewing it.

I’ve bought many bags of Natural Farm’s 6-inch Standard Bully Sticks and the thickness is varying. Why is this?

Our products are 100% natural. We never chemically process our products or change their natural form. Just like an apple, sizes will vary.  We sell by weight, so you’re always guaranteed to get the exact same weight every time you buy. All of our bags are weighed by hand.

Does Natural Farm’s products carry the natural scent?

In regards to the “Natural Scent”, this is a myth created by big brands to justify a poorly crafted product.  Bully sticks are made from beef and just like any other beef for human consumption--it does not smell bad. Larger companies buy huge volumes of beef, sourcing from at least ten different food facilities with poor quality control. A stinky bully stick is a result of a product that was not properly conditioned before being sent to a processing facility and/or was baked in a rapid manner to decrease production time -- compromising the smell and quality. A good bully stick smells like beef -- but it does not smell bad.

How are Natural Farm’s bully sticks odor-free?

A combination of factors:

1. Ingredients: We always use fresh, high quality ingredients in our products.

2. Cleaning process: we remove unwanted parts then clean the beef thoroughly in freshwater.

3. Baking process: Bully sticks are slow-baked. We use an efficient system that keeps a steady temperature throughout the baking process. This slowly dehydrates the beef--reducing the internal moisture from the inside out--conserving flavor and protein (83% in our Bully Sticks). This slow-bake process aids in an odor-free treat.

What’s the difference between pixie bully sticks and gullet sticks?

Gullet sticks are made from 100% beef esophagus and pixie bully sticks are made from 100% beef pizzle sheath.

How thick are Pixie bully sticks?

Pixie Bully Sticks can be solid or hollow and the thickness varies. They are light chews -- great for senior dogs and puppies.
